10% Time Project
For this project, we have all year to create an extra project of our choosing. In the beginning of the year we chose our project for the year. Then we had every Friday of the year to work on that project. Whatever were interested in, we get to make that for the year. At the end of the year, we will be graded on this project, and how it evolved from an idea on paper, to a replica of what we designed.
What I decided to do for this project was a living wall. When my partner and I started the project, we wanted to use living succulents on top of a board cut out in the shape of the letters, HTMMA. This was going to be hung above the doors of our school. When creating the original idea, we didn't keep in mind the cost and time of all of this. After the back of the letters were cut out, we ran into some problems. The cost of a couple hundred succulents would be very costly. In the end, we decide to go for fake leaf vines. This method was much more cost effective, and less time consuming than our original idea. Also, we ended up hanging it above the mirrors in the main commons, instead of outside. We did this because we knew it would be safer inside and last longer.
